Da Nang has two Indian kitchens on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list. One is Rang, the smart fine-dining one. Indian Aroma is the other, tucked down a back street by the river where you'd never think to look.
Since the move to the new place, the kitchen has three floors to work with, so there's plenty of room to settle in. The fit-out is full of Indian-inspired detail, the kind of room that's easy to sit in for a long, slow dinner.
An experienced Indian chef runs the kitchen and cooks the length of the country, north to south. Start with papadam and a cool mint chutney while you read the menu. The one they steer you to is the saag ghosh, a Northern lamb and spinach curry built for mopping up with garlic naan. There's butter chicken and lamb biryani for the table too, plus a vegetarian half of the menu that runs deep, not a side note.
